One of the main drawcards of Milan Fashion Week for me (of course apart from pasta related treats), has always been the thought of attending the Max Mara show. I have long been a fan and admirer of Max Mara and when I think about the most prized possessions in my closet, my Max Mara coat is certainly on the list.  There’s just something about it that feels like a treasure, it is not only beautiful but every time I wear it I feel ready to take on whatever the day ahead may throw at me. I suppose for me, this is ‘power dressing’ at its finest, and something that this collection embodies and celebrates.

Before our eyes some of the worlds most iconic models walked down the runway in monochrome, colour blocked pieces, colour graded in a Max Mara rainbow, with intermittent beautiful shocks of colour, sometimes even with three models at a time side by side.

But for me, it was all about the beiges, camels and light browns, the plays on a shade that has slowly but surely taken over my dressing desires wants and needs. Strong suiting, thigh high boots, mini skirts, utility details and oversized coats all made a statement but without ever overshadowing the true focus of this collection, the woman herself. Max Mara’s Creative Director Ian Griffiths understands that the modern woman has a desire to dress to impress, but without sacrificing comfort.

‘Powerful femininity’ isn’t a phrase I use lightly, but for me, it best describes what I felt at this show watching this collection, in a venue surrounded by women who are fashion industry leaders, first movers and true entrepreneurs. I’ve always found the phrase ‘the clothes make the man’ to be a little outdated… In this case I think ‘the clothes empower the woman’ is much more appropriate.. x
