Under a dusky pink Parisian sunset the audience milled as the anticipation grew for the Hermés Fall 2018 runway show. Shifts of misty fog drifted between trees grouped around the edges of the outdoor runway paved in cherry red gravel. This was the first Hermés show that I’ve been lucky enough to attend and the atmosphere was electric.
Upon taking your seat guests were treated with a warm Hermés blanket to settle in and pardon the pun, enjoy the show.
Straight off the bat artistic director Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski did not disappoint when serving up a hearty dose of buttery soft leather ensembles finished off with the signature Hermés hardware trademarks. The colour palette was like a journey through the french country side at dusk. Olive greens reminding me of soft pastures in the pre-evening light, ambers the shades of a soft August sunset and dusky reds as the sun sets beneath the clouds all reflected the mood of the 2018 Hermés woman. Clever details included a coat that appeared on the runway as a bag worn over the shoulder with leather strap, handbags finished off with hardware resembling smiling faces and coats reflecting elements of Hermés equestrian roots.
There was something in this beautiful show for everyone and I can confidently confess several pieces that I’ll be stalking down when the collection hits the rails.
Thank you so much Hermés for an experience that I will never forget and here’s to next and more Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski brilliance .. x
