Never one to shy away from gold shiny things, Jean Hans Arp knows how to polish the the curiosities of this art collector. From the early 1930’s the German-French sculptor focused mostly on figurative work featuring torso’s and organic shapes with a biomorphic quality.
Arp’s unusual look on life extended to his witty personality who when speaking in German would refer to himself as Hans and then when speaking in French would refer to himself as Jean.
When Arp spoke in German he referred to himself as “Hans”, and when he spoke in French he referred to himself as “Jean”.
Some of the above works are some of my favourite, and whether Arp was sculpting as either or his two personalities doesn’t worry us either way, 2 of anything is always better than one anyone .. no?
