I’ve had a long love affair with Prada. It may be symbolic but my very first pair of luxury shoes were a pair of Prada ankle boots. Black with a block heel and an open toe with a small neatly folded very cool bow across the toes, a combination of tough and edgy grown-up sophistication with just a tiny feminine twist .. you might say in true Miuccia Prada style.
Fast forward to 2016 and a relationship that once started out as pure and genuine consumer admiration has, well.. blossomed. Being a visual artist myself and with a long running career in the art industry, I’ve also shared a passion for creativity and have long been a fan of Miuccia Prada and her dedication to the Arts.
It was a delight then, that I was recently invited by the Prada team to creatively interpret the Prada Autumn Winter 2016 collection, no easy feat when you consider the collection itself uniquely incorporated the incredible works of artist Christophe Chemin.
Runway looks injected with Chemin’s surrealist prints and other-worldy collages, conjured emotions that leant themselves to the AW Prada girl, a vagabond traveller in search of a greater feeling of self .. sounds rather perfect right? I think I want to be that girl .. alas, if only I was cool enough.
Considering all this goodness and with a suitcase full of the most beautiful Ready To Wear that you could dream of, the stage was set to capture model muse Kia Low against a backdrop reminiscent of elements of the runway show. Speaking specifically about the collection, Miuccia Prada herself was quoted saying ‘Everything is symbolic. It is like a collage of what is happy or painful, of whether you are feeling beautiful or horrible, when you have love or no love.’ Well there was no shortage of love from yours truly and with a likeminded inkling towards collage, it only seemed appropriate to combine Miuccia’s words with a visual story paying homage to the inspiration of the collection.
An uber cool collection of this season’s must-have accessories, including juicy red patent mary janes, golden charm necklaces, petite star encrusted clutches and story book notepads, reflect the kind of pieces that our vagabond muse would stow away with her to take on her travels.
Just think of the stories this Prada girl could tell you of her adventures and dreams, not only would we love to listen, I think we’d like to come along for the ride. Just pack your vivid imagination and oh yes .. a pair of those lace up peep toe ankle boots. What a fashionable ride it will be ..

Congratulations to our incredible friends at Prada on the opening of their beautiful new store at Pacific Fair, right here in my own neighbourhood. You sure know how to make a girl swoon… And shop up a storm or two.
