The Oracle Fox Journal girl for this addition has taken a voyage to Tokyo. It’s been a long time coming that I’ve wanted to work with the beautiful Dutch/Australian face of Marthe Wiggers. Marthe and I met briefly backstage last year during Australian Fashion Week, amongst the chaos of hair spray, backstage photographers and a sea of worker bee’s preparing for the opening show. Her angelic and exotic features made her an immediate draw card for me, that and the fact that she has a wicked sense of humour and one of the most infectious laughs in the business.
The search for girls who carry a sense of quiet confidence and unconventional beauty is always key for me when it comes to working on our purely creative projects, after all… What would a beautiful editorial be without a muse.
When I discovered that I would be travelling to Tokyo for an assignment Marthe immediately came to mind, having resided in Japan on and off for nine years now, I loved the thought of working with a muse who felt part of the tapestry of her environment. Together with my incredibly talented photographer friend Rodney Deane, we scoured some of the most quietly beautiful locations in Tokyo to capture the world in which Marthe lives. Amongst the lantern clad streets of Asakusa to the majestic Meiji Temple of Shibuya, the goal was to capture the quieter side of Tokyo, a place where the elegant traveller goes to connect with what really inspires her alongside the culture and history of the places the she yearns to be part of.
Much like our muse, we feel as though you should travel not to find yourself, but to remember who you’ve been all along ..
