I’ve always loved a good celebration. It’s been ten years since Viktor & Rolf first created the iconic ‘Flowerbomb’ perfume, a fragrance so avant-garde that it has been described on more than one occasion as a piece of art unto itself. A combination of scents including top notes, Tea Accord, Bergamot Oil and Freesia Accord, explode from a cut glass hand grenade, symbolic to both Viktor and Rolf as ‘an antidote to reality, of which there is just one weapon – our dreams’.
As an admirer of all things avant-garde and as a long-time visual artist myself, it would only seem fitting that recently I had the honour of collaborating with the couturier duo themselves in celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Flowerbomb. Inspired by the Viktor & Rolf Fall 2015 Couture collection, where models marched down the runway wearing dresses and capes enveloped in gilded picture frames, the concept was born to frame 2000 garden roses with Flowerbomb as the centrepiece.
A floral explosion both ultra-feminine and with just the right amount edge would best describe the Flowerbomb fragrance, all of which captured within that little glass bottle. Yet, one must not be fooled into thinking that this fragrance is just for those with a penchant for the girlish… It’s the unexpected elements that Viktor & Rolf are so renowned for, that ensure even those of us who are tomboy’s at heart are able to own this scent with a certain kind of joie de vivre.
On that note.. it’s with much love and admiration that we wish a very Happy Birthday to Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, with the party season just around the corner, let the celebrations begin.
