They say that the world is getting smaller, more connected, the seasons seem to arrive faster, almost more frequently as the pace in which we live perpetually quickens. There is an advantage to all of this of course and this would be the fact that these days almost anything seems possible.
In an industry so international, it may have formerly been a disadvantage to to reside in a destination seemingly so remote as Australia, alas this couldn’t further from the truth.
With Australian Designers high on the radar among industry critics and international retailers, there is something inherently appealing about the creative ‘anomalous’, marching to the beat of their own drum. Some of you may already know that this year I’ve had the privilege of joining the panel on the Australian Fashion Chamber or AFC, whose vision is all about strengthening, developing and promoting our best creative talent on offer. With a powerful committee headed by Vogue Australia Editor in Chief, Edwina McCann and Deputy Chair, Harper’s Bazaar Australia‘s Kellie Hush, the calibre of industry key figureheads exhibits the strength in which the chamber hopes to impact.
Spring Summer 2016 set a land-mark in the fashion scene as the AFC housed it’s very own showroom for the first time internationally, featuring some of the best talent in one magical space. A stellar list of designers including Chistopher Esber (featured above), Camilla & Marc, Michael Lo Sordo, Romance Was Born, Strateas Carlucci, Bassike and Ginger & Smart showcased their collections to buyers and media from all around the world as part of Australian Designers Abroad.
With no better opportunity for designers to show their collections and with the backing of the AFC, the future is looking exciting to say the very least. This could be the space to watch, and next season I hope to see you there as we all know .. from little things big things grow ..
