The Vetements Jean, you know that you’ve been drooling over them from Tommy Ton’s New York fashion week street style images to the pages of W Magazine. The thing is, it’s not every day that you feel like maxing out your daily limit on a pair of denim jeans, right?
Well, before you start imagining yourself hacking up your trusty old 501’s, I thought I’d share some interesting facts on the art of avant-garde denim. Damna Gvasalia’s first iconic pairs of Vetements jeans came about through an accidental creative process .. “In our first season, because our quantities were just too small for a factory, we had to rework existing vintage pieces and put them on a new shape, which means that there was almost a double amount of work involved.” The fact that each pair of Vetements jeans are constructed from at least 2 pairs of vintage jeans, cut along the seam and reworked to match each other, means that the price is obviously higher but with a cool factor this good it’s worth the investment .. and completely street style approved ..
